Purpose of job:

The CNC Programmer position is focused on developing programs to control machining or processing of the plastics injection tools by automatic machine tools and equipment. This positon will also be focused on participating in the department’s KPI’s to ensure quality tools are released for production within the plastics injection molding area of In’Tech.

Level of authority:  Technical

 

Essential job functions: 

1. Perform Programming for the CNC Machines

  • Determine the sequence of machine operations and select the proper cutting tools needed to machine workpieces into the desired shapes; breaking down 3D tooling designs to create electrodes, programs and steel cutting programs.

  • Revise programs or tapes to eliminate errors, and retest programs to check that problems have been solved.

  • Determine reference points, machine cutting paths, or hole locations, and compute angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvatures.

  • Compare encoded tapes or computer printouts with original part specifications ad blueprints to verify accuracy of instructions.

  • Work closely with toolmakers, sinker specialist, and mill specialist to ensure quality and accuracy.

  • Provide assistance to the toolmakers for their use of the Cam Tool Viewer.

2. Improve Tool and Departmental Performance

  • ​​​Use documented methods and practices to validate and ensure quality is produced up front.

  • Modify existing programs to enhance efficiency.

  • Participate in the documentation of departmental processes and work instructions.

  • Participate in collecting data for the department’s KPI’s.

  • Continuous process improvement tasks as assigned.

Essential job qualifications and requirements:

Work environment:  

Work is performed in an office and departmentalized Toolroom at the Ramsey facility.

 

Tools and equipment:

  1. CNC Machine

  2. Micrometer

  3. Caliper

 

Personal protective equipment:

  1. Safety glasses

 

Training requirements

  1. Employee orientation.

  2. Quality policy and measurable objectives.

  3. All other training as indicated on department training matrix.
