Purpose of the job:

The purpose of this position is to lead the Tooling Department in fabricating new tooling and fixtures, repairing existing tooling, and supporting other needs of the business.  The position will direct and oversee all activities and personnel within the Tooling Department, assuring that the tool room meets both internal and external customer needs with optimum productivity and quality.  This position will collaborate closely with staff in Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing to execute daily work and plan accordingly for the future.

 

Essential job functions: 

 

Create and manage plans

Plan for the department in a way that supports business conditions and needs.

Guide plans for cost-reduction activities which improve performance.

Manage projects and initiatives

Develop project plans to deliver in the required timeframes.

Determine activities and critical paths.

Manage resources and milestones to project completion.

Manage and improve processes

Ensure that the existing processes and work instructions are defined, documented, followed and improved upon.  Align these processes and comply with the practices of the company’s ISO Quality Management System.

Assess performance and drive continuous improvement

Define, analyze, and measure quality control of department work.

Manage employee and department performance

Communicate and manage current and new goals through on-time performance reviews. 

Create professional development plans for individual employees and create employee improvement plans as needed.

Report on tooling performance

Establish and maintain the metrics (KPI’s) that drive and validate performance.

Share the performance results as required and defined by management.

Manage and improve tools and systems

Ensure that the machine and tool infrastructure support business needs. 

Evaluate, recommend, and implement new tool technologies for fit and use.

 

 

Additional job functions:

  1. Participate in the CAPA team as needed.

  2. Perform job-related activities as required or assigned.

 

Essential job qualifications and requirements:

 

Technical

  1. Must have a BS/ME degree or two years of advanced education and appropriate specialized training.

  2. A minimum of six years of technical and/or mold making.

  3. Demonstrated leadership skills, business sense, and applicable technical knowledge.

  4. Must have comprehensive knowledge of methods and tools used for injection-molding processes and machines.

  5. Must be able to interact with co-workers courteously and professionally.

  6. Must be able to work under minimal supervision and follow work and/or verbal instructions.

Physical

1. Must be able to perform general physical activities during an 8-hour shift including pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, and balancing.

2. Must be able to stand and walk throughout an 8-hour shift.

3. Must have good arm-hand control and dexterity.

4. Must have good finger control and dexterity.

5. Must be able to see details at close range.

6. Must have basic typing skills.

 

Work environment:  Work is performed in a temperature controlled manufacturing area with a moderately loud noise level due to some manufacturing machines.  A portion of work is also performed in an office environment. 

 

 

Tools and equipment:

  1. Computer

  2. Microscope

  3. Inspection and measuring equipment

  4. Miscellaneous hand tools

  5. Step stool (occasionally)

  6. Chain Hoist

  7. Manual Machines

  8. CNC Equipment

 

Personal protective equipment:

  1. Safety glasses

  2. Gloves when needed

 

Training requirements

  1. Employee orientation.

  2. Quality policy and measurable objectives.

  3. All other training as indicated on the department training matrix.

  4. Chain Hoist use.

The Position:

  • Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

In'Tech Industries is located in Ramsey, Minnesota, just north of the Twin City metro area, offering an easy commute for those either living north or south of the Ramsey area.  Ramsey is a community that offers support for employers and is a growing industrial area in Anoka County.
