Precision Tooling Using Uddeholm’s Caldie Tool Steel

In’Tech Industries offers precision tooling for a wide variety of end applications. We use several different types of steel in our tool room, including A2, S-7, 420 Stainless, P-20, and CPM 10V. We also work with Uddeholm Caldie tool steel, an alloyed tool steel that is ideal for applications where strength and resistance to chipping and cracking are important.

Here’s a closer look at this material and several ideal applications for Caldie tool steel.

About Uddeholm’s Caldie Tool Steel

Caldie tool steel is a chromium-molybdenum-vanadium alloyed tool steel. It is manufactured by the Uddeholm corporation and is suitable for all types of surface treatments, including those that must achieve a high surface finish. In’Tech customers may choose Caldie tool steel if their project requires high toughness, high ductility, and good flame, induction, and laser hardenability. Caldie also has good wear resistance and is easy to weld.

All of these characteristics add up to a mold material that can produce high-quality components with complex shapes and tight tolerances. This makes Caldie tool steel an ideal choice for many injection molding projects.

An Ideal Material for Many Injection Molding Projects

Caldie tool steel may be an ideal choice for creating the mold for your injection molding project. It can withstand high temperatures and corrosion while creating high-quality end products use after use. Here’s a look at a few different types of precision molded projects where we may use Caldie as our mold material.

Consumer Electronics

Manufacturers of smartphones, tablets, laptops, and gaming devices may choose Caldie as the material for their molds for plastic enclosures, buttons, keyboards, and battery compartments.

Medical Devices

Caldie is also a good choice for molds for housing and casing components for medical equipment as well as plastic components in disposable medical supplies, such as syringe barrels, and the handles, trays, and other accessories for surgical instruments.

Household Products

Injection molding is a common method of fabrication for home appliance components such as washing machine parts or vacuum cleaner housings. Caldie is a good material for molds for these parts.

Caldie tool steel is just one material our tool room uses to fabricate high-quality, durable molds. Our tooling craftsmen have decades of combined experience sourcing and recommending the right steel for all sorts of injection molding projects.
